From time to time, it all gets a bit much for me.
Life gets on top.
I start to find myself playing catch up. Chasing. Trying to stay afloat.
This is a terrible place to make big decisions from. It’s a terrible place to be for any meaningful length of time.
I’ve started to realise my way of fighting the overwhelm — and it’s to go against my instinct.
It’s simple but it’s often so very hard to do in practice: do absolutely nothing.
Not forever, not even for long, but just for a bit. A day ideally, or maybe even just a morning.
Do nothing. With no one. With no screens. No sounds. No commitments. No chores. Escape everything.
Modern life is filled with deafening noise — every app, every podcast, every TV show, every ad, every crisp packet, every delivery, every email, every WhatsApp, every sign, every thing.
The only way I’ve found to overcome the overwhelm is to stop, and let my mind and my body pause. Just for a little.
The time to overachieve will come soon enough, but not a moment sooner.
